Join us on this Motorcycle Tour India initiated on the Foothills of the Himalayas near Corbett National Park famous for Tigers and culminating in the highest city in the world - Lhasa in tibet. The motorbike tour is initially through the Terai region of Nepal, with game viewing of Tiger and other animals at Bardia National Park, a short visit to Chitwan and an ascent on lower Himalayas serpentine roads to reach Kathmandu. After Kathmandu its time to realise what altitude gain can do to life & body, mind & soul. Once acclimatised to riding your motorbike on this tough terrain, how easy it is to traverse the slow paced life on the roof of the world, with descend into the Bramhaputra valley after paying a tribute at the base camp of Mount Everest. A visit to Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet will Culminate this Motorbike Tour.
Day 01: Delhi - Rudrapur - 380 Kms
Arrive Early Morning Hours Ex International flight to Delhi & board Air-conditioned coach / Car to drive to Rudrapur in the Foothills of Himalayas. Afternoon at leisure to refresh from jetlag followed by seasoning on motorbikes in the latter part of the evening. Overnight hotel.
Day 02: Rudrapur - Royal Bardia National Park. - Appx 300 Kms
Start early, as early as 0600 Hrs to reach the Police check post on the India - Nepal Border. After registration of the bikes etc we start our 220 Kms ride to Royal Bardia Sanctuary. Its a pleasant ride along the well maintained Indo-Nepal Friendship highway.
Day 03: Bardia - Chitwan National Park - 300 Kms
After Early morning sight seeing of Bardia on elephant back we will start our ride to Chitwan National Park. The Drive From Royal Bardia National Park to Chitwan is parallel to the Himalayan range - we shall be riding uphill & down hill along the foothill ranges. The ride is pleasant in the evergreen vegetation to reach the Royal Chitwan Park by late evening.
Day 04: Chitwan - Kathmandu - 200 Kms.
After early morning Game viewing we take on the serpentine roads of the Lower Himalayas to reach Pokhara by late afternoon. The ride is ideally on metalled highway but a few kms do trouble as the roads may be under repairs. The final 30 Kms is a steep ascent with some real good hairpin bends bringing us into the Valley of Kathmandu. O/Nt Hotel.
Day 05: Kathmandu - At Leisure
Today we will collect permits from the Chinese Embassy for Travelling in Tibet on motorcycles, this shall be a whole day process with depositing of Passports & then collecting by late evening. The same time we can explore the Kathmandu city by coach & the mechanic has time to work on the bikes to take on the unpaved roads on the latter part of the itinerary, in Tibet.
Day 06: Kathmandu - Kodari - Zanghmu - Nyalam 230 Kms
Two time consuming border crossings today at the Nepal Check post & Zanghmu. After an initial easy 170 Kms starts the ascent. almost crossing 2000 M & halting at an altitude of appx 3500 M for night stay.
Day 07: Nyalam - Tingri - 232 Kms
Today we ride ahead on unpaved roads. It is a day to take on the Passes - first to come is Thong la, followed by Lelung la at 5050 m. and the speed can be as low as 25 Kms an hour at times.
Day 08: Tingri - Everest Base Camp - Tingri - 250 Kms A day to view the most magnificent peak in the world from the base camp of Mount Everest. Appx 120 Kms one way on totally unpaved roads with pack lunch at our disposal we shall be heading early morning to reach the base camp & stay there for some time to return back to the Tingri town for overnight stay.
Day 09: Tingri - Lhatze - Shigatse A day of true plateau ride. Except when we cross Lhatse to take on the most easy pass Yulung la at 4950 M, the ride is through a colourful topography. By now we should have acclimatised ourselves to the off road conditions hence a ride shall be a bit easy going even though dust & intense heat of the sun shall be part of the day's ride.
Day 10: Shigatse - Gyantse - 180 Kms
Early morning sight seeing of the Monastery Tashi Lumpo located at the city outskirts and later on ride to Gyantse, 90 kms ahead, to visit the monastery Baiju.
Day 11: Gyantse - Lhasa - 200 Kms
We start the Ride early morning. Appx 88 kms ahead is the magnificent pass called Karo la - 5045M that shall take some time while ascending. Then the ride is on the lake bed of the Yamdrok lake, ascend to Khamba La and descent into the Bramhaputra valley. Arrive Lhasa by late evening & check in the hotel.
Day 12: In and around Lhasa After a leisurely breakfast we proceed to the Potala Palace and other places of interest for sight seeing. Lhasa meaning the holy land in local dialect is on the southern bank of the river Lhasa, a tributary of yarlung zangbo river. Sitting at 3,700 M above sea level Lhasa is also called the solar city because of longer duration of sun shine in the capital. Lhasa is the centre of politics, economy and culture of the Tibet autonomous region.
Day 13: Lhasa - Kathmandu
Early Morning transfer to Gongkar for Flight back to Kathmandu for
connecting Flight home
